In 1989, the Labour Court did not recommend the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union's claim that an Arlington Limited worker retain a higher rate of pay. The recommendation was signed on 22 September 1989. The worker, a full-time assembler and stand-by driver, had received the higher rate from September 1988 to February 1989. The union argued he had been led to believe the increase reflected individual merit. Arlington Limited said it arose from a clerical error and that paying the rate for several months was redress.
