In 1989, the Labour Court recommended a 25% shift premium and a £2,000 lump sum for each of 15 recovery department packaging workers at Pfizer Chemical Corporation. The recommendation was signed on 27 January 1989. The Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union sought improved conditions after Pfizer introduced a revised roster. The company had offered a 20% premium and opposed additional annual leave and compensation for reduced overtime. The Court recommended no increase to the workers’ existing 20 days of annual leave. The £2,000 payment was recommended to settle the loss of Sunday overtime and two hours a week at double time.
