In 1989, the Labour Court recommended that Irish Steel Limited consolidate the full £20 interim bonus into the salaries of six non-craft steelmaking foremen. The recommendation was signed on 27 January 1989. The Irish Distributive and Administrative Trade Union sought to consolidate bonus payments into basic pay for 22 non-craft foremen. Irish Steel had offered to consolidate £626 or the standard bonus, whichever was higher; the union argued that six steelmaking foremen would otherwise be worse off. For the other non-craft foremen, the Court recommended consolidating the standard bonus then paid.
