The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the pay and conditions parity claim by the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union, the Amalgamated Engineering Union and the Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications and Plumbing Union for about 20 workers at New Limerick Gas. The recommendation was signed on 9 September 1988. The unions sought rates comparable with those in other gas utilities, saying workers had cooperated with new work practices. New Limerick Gas cited financial losses and projected further losses. The court said the company's financial projections did not support parity in basic wage rates.
