Labour Court recommends local pay talks for Buttles Bacon workers without kill bonus

In 1987, the Labour Court recommended local negotiations on a basic-pay increase for Buttles Bacon Company Limited workers who did not receive the kill bonus. The recommendation, signed on 17 December 1987, said the company could not provide a general adjustment in basic rates. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union had sought a 10% increase over 12 months, a shorter working week and two extra annual leave days for about 61 workers in Enniscorthy. The company said it could not sustain a general increase amid losses and difficult trading conditions.
