In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that the union accept Roches Stores Limited's pay offer and that the company concede the union's parity claim for two day cleaners. The recommendation was signed on 17 December 1987. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union sought a 10% pay increase and several other changes for 100 general workers at stores in Cork City and Wilton. Roches Stores offered a 3% increase from 1 June 1987 and a further 2% from 1 January 1988, with a pro-rata meal-allowance increase. The Court said the offer was fair and should be accepted.
