The Labour Court recommended acceptance of conciliation proposals in the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union's wage-round dispute with Ryan Brothers Limited. The recommendation was signed on 23 November 1987. The union's claim for about 25 workers included a pay rise, compensation for drivers collecting money and a differential for excavator drivers. The Court recommended accepting the proposals, amended so the agreement would end on 30 June 1988 rather than 31 July. They included a 4% increase from 1 July 1987 and no further cost-increasing claims during the agreement. The union had sought an 8% increase for 12 months; the company said it could not afford a rise and cited pressures in the construction sector.
