In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend overtime or shift premia for swimming-pool attendants and lifeguards employed by Tralee Urban District Council. The recommendation was signed on 16 January 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union sought overtime and shift premia for two attendants at the Tralee sports complex. It argued that the workers’ conditions were aligned with those of Tralee VEC caretakers. The council said the attendants’ rates already accounted for night and Sunday opening. It also cited a large operating deficit and warned that conceding the claim could affect other workers.
