The Workplace Relations Commission recommended steps to explore a bus driver’s return to work after finding some merit in his dispute with a travel company. The recommendation, dated 15 May 2026, calls for his GP reports to be shared with the company doctor to assess whether he can return during 2026. The worker said he felt bullied and pushed out after a WhatsApp message among supervisors criticised him. The company said it investigated the message and offered mediation. The officer found the worker had not specified that he wanted to trigger the next stage of the grievance process or explained what remained unresolved. The officer also said more hands-on management during his sick leave would have been helpful. If he is fit to return, the company should consider renewed mediation; he may pursue the next grievance stage or Dignity at Work procedure if mediation is declined.
