The Workplace Relations Commission has awarded plasterer Joseph Lennon €10,000 compensation after finding that Kenplast Ltd failed to provide required construction-sector pension and sick-pay arrangements, including death-in-service provision. The decision, dated 17 November 2025, also awarded Lennon €3,460 for the failure to provide written employment terms and €3,500 for paying below the minimum craftsperson rate.
Lennon had worked for Kenplast since 2019 and remained employed when the complaints were heard. The WRC found he was paid €19.85 an hour against a minimum rate of €22.24. It considered his estimated loss of €2,423.46, payslip difficulties and a period of lay-off when setting compensation.
The WRC rejected his penalisation complaint, finding that his evidence concerned payslips, tax returns and expenses, rather than a protected act under the law. His public-holiday complaint and six duplicate complaints were withdrawn. A separate complaint about written employment particulars was also upheld, but no further order was made because the same failure was addressed in the €3,460 award.
