The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Mary Kenneally €67,000 net compensation after finding that her dismissal by Carr Sewing Machines Limited was unfair. The decision, dated 22 June 2026, also upheld complaints over unpaid wages, inaccurate employment terms and unpaid work during lunch breaks.
Kenneally said the company reduced her four-day week to three days, restricted her established practice of taking garments home to work on, and ended her employment without notice after she disclosed a full-time offer elsewhere. The WRC found the company had changed her working conditions and rejected its asserted mandatory retirement basis. The Equality Act complaint was deemed withdrawn because it concerned the same facts as the unfair-dismissal complaint.
Carr Sewing Machines Limited denied liability. Its liquidator said any award might have to be paid from the national insolvency fund; the company has since gone into liquidation.
