WRC rejects Galway University Hospital worker’s maternity return complaint

A maternity protection complaint by Breda O Loughlin against Galway University Hospital was rejected by the Workplace Relations Commission, which found the two-long-day shift pattern she sought to resume after maternity leave was informal and not part of her contract. In a decision dated 14 October 2025, WRC Adjudication Officer Peter O'Brien found the hospital offered her the same contracted hours on return: 20 hours over three days. The hospital said her contract provided for 20 hours across a five-day roster. No award was recorded.
