The Workplace Relations Commission declined jurisdiction over Taylor Evans’s minimum wage complaint against John Golding Ltd. t/a Refrigeration Solutions in a decision dated 11 April 2024. The merits were not decided. Evans said he should have received the national minimum wage before he was registered as a refrigeration and air conditioning apprentice. He said he was paid €9.50 an hour and that the minimum wage was €10.50 in 2022 and €11.30 from 1 January 2023. The company denied the claim and said he was paid above the rate to which he was entitled. The WRC found it could not hear the dispute because Evans had not requested a written statement of his average hourly pay, required before the complaint could be brought.
