The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Betelnut Bray Cafe to pay Iga Galaszewska €407.70 in lieu of two weeks’ notice and €933.48 for outstanding holiday entitlement after the cafe closed and the employer did not attend the hearing. It also ordered the cafe to make a redundancy payment based on her service from 4 July 2020 to 30 May 2023, variable weekly hours and an hourly rate of €12.00. The amount is payable within 42 days. Galaszewska said the cafe closed without prior notice, and that she had not received holiday pay or redundancy. The employer told the WRC the business had closed after the landlord required it to do so, amid debts for rent, utilities, rates and suppliers. The decision was dated 20 March 2024.
