The WRC recommended €5,000 compensation for a business development manager after finding a workplace investigation into his complaint was wholly flawed. The recommendation was dated 20 March 2024.
The worker said he complained about bullying and harassment by his boss, then learned the investigation had also considered allegations against him. He said he had not been told about those allegations or allowed to answer them. The employer did not attend the hearing or provide a written submission.
The officer found the worker was not informed of the allegations, could not challenge them and could not appeal the findings. The officer said the investigation failed to follow natural justice, the company’s procedures and the code of practice on bullying at work.
The officer recommended that the employer pay €5,000 in full and final settlement of the dispute.
