The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Brampton Care Home to pay George Boyden €567.50 gross after finding it unlawfully deducted rent from his wages. The decision was dated 9 May 2024. Boyden said he left employer-provided accommodation because of its condition and had not agreed to the deduction. The home said his signed contract allowed deductions for money he owed, including rent. The officer found the home deducted €637.50 without giving at least a week’s notice and left Boyden with €8.77 net pay. The deduction included a 30% rent discount. After considering Boyden’s proposal to pay €70 toward the rent, the officer found €567.50 remained properly payable to him.
