Anita Maher won €3,729.20 in notice pay and €186.50 for accrued annual leave after the nursery where she worked closed. The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) also found her redundancy complaint well founded, making her eligible for a statutory lump sum subject to insurable employment. In a decision dated 7 May 2024, the WRC said Maher’s employment as a childcare worker ended on 15 May 2023, when the nursery closed. She had worked there since 16 October 2006 and earned gross weekly pay of €466.15. The commission found she was entitled to eight weeks’ notice and ordered compensation in lieu. It also ordered payment for about two days of accrued annual leave. The statutory redundancy lump sum is subject to the relevant insurable employment rules, and its calculation is for the relevant Department. The respondent did not attend the second hearing.
