The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Pharmtrans Direct Limited to pay Darren McDonnell €2,480 in net compensation for unpaid wages and untaken holiday pay. The decision was dated 12 March 2024. McDonnell said he was dismissed when the company’s contract to deliver pharmaceutical products for Uniphar ended in June 2023. The respondent gave no evidence at the hearing. The WRC found the wage complaint well founded and directed payment free of tax, PRSI and USC deductions. The WRC found two redundancy complaints and two complaints about rights during notice not well founded. A separate claim for pay in lieu of notice could not be adjudicated because McDonnell had less than 13 weeks’ service, so the merits of that claim were not decided.
