The Workplace Relations Commission ordered La Cosa Nostra Hospitality Ltd to pay Gabriel Ion Tudorin €300 net after partly upholding his wage complaint. The decision was dated 8 July 2024. Tudorin said he left his previous job after the café owner promised to pay him from May 2023, although the café had not opened. The owner said a €600 payment in June was an advance on wages and that the opening had been delayed. The adjudicator found Tudorin was not entitled to wages for the weeks when the café was closed, and had been paid for his July hours and accrued holiday. But the respondent had not shown that he was paid for work on 4 August. The €300 net compensation covered one day’s pay for that shift and one day’s pay for the 7 August public holiday, with the holiday pay based on time and a half.
