Finley Kennedy awarded €750 over missing employment contract

The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Finley Kennedy €750 after finding that his employer had not provided a contract of employment. The decision, dated 10 April 2024, concerned his work as a chef at The Black Pig Winebar. Kennedy also raised complaints about breaks, annual leave, public holidays, Sunday premiums, redundancy and annual leave on termination. Those complaints were not well founded in the decision; a separate road-transport hours complaint was withdrawn. The WRC said it had no jurisdiction to decide the working-time complaints because they fell outside the six-month limit. It disallowed the redundancy complaint because Kennedy lacked the 104 weeks of continuous service required to qualify.
