WRC awards hotel worker €398.97 over late employment terms

The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Aimee Mulligan €398.97 after finding that Gopack Limited trading as The Newbury Hotel gave her written employment terms late. The decision was dated 24 January 2024. Mulligan began work on 7 September 2022, and the hotel’s records showed she received the statement 19 days later. The law required the specified terms to be provided within five days. She also said she had asked for morning shifts after aggressive customers confronted her while she was working alone, and that she then received no shifts. The respondent denied that she had made the request and said the statement complied with the law. The officer found that the complaint concerned the late written terms; the law did not cover the subsequent enforcement of those terms. The award was one week’s remuneration.
