Mercy University Hospital Cork succeeded in a Payment of Wages complaint brought by Michael Furlong after the Workplace Relations Commission found it not well founded. The WRC decision was dated 15 April 2024. Furlong complained that he had not been paid while on sick leave. He did not attend the hearing on 20 March 2024; the hospital attended. When contacted, Furlong said he was at work and would not attend. He gave no advance notice and did not ask for an adjournment. The adjudicator later offered him an opportunity to request a new hearing, but he did not reply within the specified period. The WRC found the complaint under the Payment of Wages Act 1991 not well founded. The finding was a merits outcome against Furlong, rather than a ruling that the merits had not been decided.
