The Workplace Relations Commission has ordered Dundalk Institute Of Technology to pay Bahman Honari €2,000 after finding it failed to provide him with a five-day statement of employment terms. Adjudication Officer Orla Jones issued the decision, dated 22 May 2024.
Honari said he had not received the statement and did not know his rate of pay. The Institute said it sent him a contract on 16 November 2022, after confirming his weekly hours, and argued the five-day requirement did not apply. Jones found that the requirement had been in force since 4 March 2019 and that the Institute had contravened it.
Honari also disputed his starting salary, saying his earlier research and lecturing experience should have qualified him for a higher rate. The officer said that issue was outside the scope of this employment-terms complaint.
