WRC upholds Jimmy Bell’s redundancy complaint

The Workplace Relations Commission found Jimmy Bell’s redundancy complaint well founded and ordered Ballymun Regional Youth Resource to pay his statutory redundancy entitlement. The decision was dated 13 December 2023. Bell worked as a youth worker on the organisation’s Outreach Team from May 2011 until December 2021. He said the outreach function ended after HSE funding was withdrawn and his dismissal was a redundancy. The organisation said funding for 2022 had been withdrawn and it had been advised the situation was not a transfer of undertakings. The Commission found there was a redundancy situation. The statutory entitlement is calculated using a weekly wage of €600; payment was due within 42 days of the decision.
