WRC orders redundancy entitlement for Ballymun youth worker

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Workplace Relations Commission found two redundancy complaints by youth worker Mark Sutton well founded and ordered Ballymun Regional Youth Resource to pay his statutory redundancy entitlement. The decision was dated 13 December 2023. Sutton worked on the organisation’s Outreach Team from September 2014 until December 2021. He said the outreach programme ended after HSE funding was withdrawn and his dismissal amounted to redundancy. The organisation said its funding for 2022 had been withdrawn. An alternative complaint under transfer of undertakings regulations was deemed not well founded after the redundancy complaints succeeded. The statutory entitlement is calculated using a weekly wage of €600. The transfer of undertakings complaint was the rejected complaint; the two redundancy complaints succeeded.
