The Workplace Relations Commission found Kieran O Brien’s redundancy complaint against Paul Boyd trading as John Dwyer Butchers not well founded. The decision, dated 17 October 2023, said O Brien retired by agreement and was not dismissed. O Brien had worked in the business since 1971 and said he wanted to keep working. The adjudication officer accepted the employer’s account that O Brien had agreed to retire in September 2022, following discussions recorded in a letter. A redundancy payment is due when employment ends because the job is eliminated; the WRC found that was not the case here.
