The Workplace Relations Commission awarded plumber Vlad Donea €2,984.50 after finding his wage complaint against Redwood Mechanical Services Limited well founded. In a decision dated 13 April 2023, it also found a separate complaint under the Industrial Relations (Amendment) Act 2015 not well founded. Donea said he worked 185 hours between 21 June and 24 July 2022 but was paid for only 12.5 hours. He claimed unpaid wages, annual leave pay and a week's sick leave pay, saying the company had agreed to pay him €25 an hour. The respondent did not appear at the hearing, but the adjudicator was satisfied it had received notice. The adjudicator accepted Donea's undisputed evidence and awarded the net amount of wages due and owing of the gross sum of €2,984.50. The separate sectoral order complaint failed because Donea was neither an apprentice nor a qualified plumber and fell outside the scope of the Mechanical Engineering Construction Sector SEO.
