WRC grants worker statutory redundancy payment, rejects notice claim

A worker was entitled to a statutory redundancy payment after being laid off during the pandemic, while her minimum notice complaint was not well founded. The Workplace Relations Commission decision was dated 13 April 2023. The worker had been the student placement service’s sole employee. The WRC found that her employment ended on 9 February 2022, after she claimed redundancy, and set out the employment and pay criteria for calculating her entitlement. The minimum notice complaint failed because she initiated the termination by claiming redundancy.
