WRC awards Bernadette Kavanagh statutory redundancy pay

The Workplace Relations Commission allowed Bernadette Kavanagh’s redundancy complaint against Maherusl Ltd after the employer did not attend the hearing. She is entitled to a statutory payment based on two weeks’ pay for each year or part-year of service, plus one week, subject to confirmation that her employment was insurable. Kavanagh worked as a sales assistant from 21 January 2018 until the business closed on 20 March 2022 and did not receive redundancy pay. The calculation uses a gross weekly wage of €270 and excludes periods of lay-off from reckonable service. The WRC decision was dated 1 March 2024.
