The Workplace Relations Commission found that Brid Ni Cheallaigh Loftus was unfairly dismissed and awarded her €3,400. It also awarded her €680 for the failure to provide written employment terms. The decision was dated 1 March 2024.

Loftus worked as a medical secretary and receptionist for Miklos Penzes from November 2019 until her employment ended in June 2021. She said she was dismissed after asking to use time off in lieu for extra hours. Penzes did not attend the hearings, but had earlier said he had not dismissed her and that her job remained available.

The adjudication officer found that Loftus had been dismissed without fair procedures. The €3,400 award represented 20 weeks’ pay. The officer also found that her efforts to reduce her losses did not fully meet the expected standard. The second award was €680 for the missing written terms.
