Dacandy Transport ordered to pay driver €2,040 over unpaid wages

The Workplace Relations Commission has ordered Dacandy Transport Limited to pay Robert Andrei Kurt €2,040 in compensation for unpaid wages, after finding two of his three complaints well-founded. The decision was dated 27 April 2023. Kurt worked for the company as a driver from 19 April to 5 May 2022. He said he had not been paid and had not received payment for accrued annual leave. The company did not attend the hearing or provide a written response. The WRC found that Kurt had worked 12 days at €170 a day without pay. It also found he had 11.5 hours of accrued untaken leave and ordered the company to pay €163 for that leave, plus €1,050 compensation for breaching the working-time law. His complaint about a written statement of employment terms was not well-founded because he had less than one month’s continuous service and the WRC had no jurisdiction to hear it.
