The Workplace Relations Commission found Connor Bates’s complaint against Tysers Ireland Limited not well founded in a decision dated 5 April 2023. Bates, an insurance underwriter, said the company withheld part of his 2021 discretionary bonus after splitting the payment. He said earlier bonuses had been paid in full in March and he had not been told the 2021 bonus would be split. Tysers said the bonus required Bates to remain employed when the second portion was due in September 2022. He had resigned effective 25 June, and the adjudicator considered the parties’ arguments, his contract and the bonus policy before rejecting the complaint.
