The Workplace Relations Commission upheld two complaints by Hugh Beirne, awarding him €17,190.40 for an Irish redundancy-payment shortfall and eight weeks’ wages in lieu of notice. The decision was dated 26 January 2023.
Beirne was working at Roadbridge’s UK site when the company entered receivership and made workers redundant without notice in April 2022. He had received UK statutory redundancy pay, but said it was €17,190.40 below his Irish entitlement. The adjudication officer found that his Irish service entitled him to a redundancy payment covering all his employment with the company, with the UK payment taken into account.
The officer also awarded eight weeks’ wages in lieu of notice. Roadbridge did not attend the hearing, but the officer found it had been notified at its registered business address and accepted Beirne’s evidence about his employment in Ireland and the UK as credible and persuasive.
