The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Mackin Travel Limited to pay Anne Furlong €2,280 after finding the company unlawfully withheld her notice pay. The decision was dated 24 March 2023. Furlong, who had worked as the travel agency’s manager since 1995, claimed €5,080 for eight weeks’ notice pay. The WRC found statutory notice pay was due and upheld that complaint, with the award subject to lawful deductions. The WRC found it had no jurisdiction to hear her separate complaint about public-holiday entitlements because it was lodged more than 18 months after the alleged contraventions. The complaint was found outside the time limit and was not well founded; the merits were not decided. The WRC also found that Good Friday is not a public holiday.
