The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Daniele Vito Antonetti €5,000 compensation after finding a chronic, institutional failure to provide proper breaks at the Ciao Bella Roma restaurant. The decision, dated 12 October 2023, also upheld his complaints about pay, leave, notice, employment terms and unfair dismissal.

Antonetti worked as a chef at the restaurant, which was operated by Ascot Catering Limited Ciao Bella Roma. He said he worked Sundays without a premium, was not paid for his final two weeks, and did not receive proper breaks or payment for annual and public holidays. He also said he had not received written terms of employment or notice pay.

The company did not attend the hearing. The officer accepted Antonetti’s evidence and found all eight complaints well founded. The awards included €1,347 for two weeks’ wages, €780 for Sunday premiums, €2,694 for notice and €2,694 for annual leave, including an element for Sunday premium. The unfair dismissal award was €2,694, equivalent to four weeks’ pay.
