Walter Morrissey’s appeal against his 13-year sentence for aggravated sexual assault was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 3 July 2018. The offence occurred in a Kilkenny town between 1 and 8 December 2011, involving his former partner. Morrissey had also been convicted of intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm.
The court said the sentence was lenient but within the sentencing judge’s discretion, and dismissed the appeal without hesitation. Morrissey had been sentenced in 2013 after a jury conviction in the Central Criminal Court.
