This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Gerry Walshe’s marriage referendum appeal remained before the Court of Appeal against the remaining respondents following the Referendum Commission’s release from the appeal.

On 29 June 2015, Gerry Walshe confirmed that the Commission was no longer part of the appeal.

Representing himself, Gerry Walshe had asked the High Court on 3 June 2015 for permission to bring a petition challenging the validity of the Thirty-fourth Amendment of the Constitution (Marriage Equality) Bill 2015.

He named Ireland and the Attorney General as respondents, alongside the Referendum Returning Officer and the Referendum Commission.

The High Court refused permission. The Commission requested its costs and received an award in its favour. Gerry Walshe then took an appeal against the High Court’s decision to the Court of Appeal.
