Walter Morrissey lost his appeal against his aggravated sexual assault conviction at the Court of Appeal, reported on 15 May 2018.
He had been jailed for 13 years in 2013 after leaving his former partner with life-threatening injuries at his Callan home.
The three-judge court rejected his complaints about legal representation, discharged jurors and prejudicial evidence concerning the sex offenders register.
The court said his defence team had made a tactical decision to continue after the register comment, rather than object immediately.
The appeal court therefore upheld the conviction, and Morrissey continued serving his 13-year sentence.
