This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Viorel Doroscan and Otniel Richardo Clejan have been sentenced to life in prison for murdering 22-year-old Mahamud Ilyas. The Central Criminal Court imposed the mandatory sentence after a jury found them guilty.

The trial heard that the men beat Ilyas at an apartment in Blanchardstown, including striking his head with a hammer, then left him in a wooded area in Co Meath. Justice Tony Hunt said they had suffered a “massive loss of control and reason” during the assault, and criticised how they dealt with Ilyas while he was seriously injured. The court heard that Clejan had no relevant previous convictions; Doroscan had three drug possession convictions, including one for possession for sale or supply.
