Viorel Doroscan and Otniel Richardo Clejan were sentenced to life in prison at the Central Criminal Court for murdering 22-year-old Mahamud Ilyas. The jury had found both men guilty by unanimous verdict.
The court heard that they beat Ilyas with a hammer, stamped and kicked him, then left him injured in a wooded area in Co Meath. Mr Justice Tony Hunt said the men’s callous actions extinguished whatever chance Ilyas had of surviving the assault.
