The Labour Court recommended on 8 December 2008 that Bausch and Lomb Ireland and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union agree when employees should use the Caredoc on-call doctor service outside normal surgery hours. The agreed criteria should be included in the company and union agreement, with the cost of qualifying exceptional visits shared equally by the company and worker. The union said night and weekend workers could need Caredoc to obtain a medical certificate, at a cost of €60 per appointment. The company said unlimited medical cover could not be treated as an open-ended commitment.
