Labour Court recommends internal appeal hearing for Iarnrod Eireann worker

The Labour Court recommended that Iarnrod Eireann schedule an internal Appeals Tribunal to investigate a worker’s disciplinary sanction and invite him to attend with a representative. The recommendation was dated 10 December 2007. The union said the company had delayed the appeal, reduced the worker’s pay during suspension and denied him representation by his chosen union. The Court found that the company had complied with its procedures on representation and that basic-rate pay during suspension was consistent with those procedures. It did not find a breach as claimed by the union and did not recommend reinstatement on the train drivers’ payroll.
