In 2004, the Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Mayo County Council’s commitment to discuss future changes to job requirements with the union in advance. The recommendation was dated 17 December 2004. The dispute followed a worker’s exclusion from interview for a caretaker post in Ballinrobe because he did not meet the stated educational qualifications. The Council later made a Leaving Certificate desirable rather than essential for a similar vacancy. The Council also agreed that future changes to job requirements would be discussed with the union locally before they were made. The Court recommended that the union accept that commitment.
