The Labour Court recommended that Adm Ringaskiddy calculate shift workers’ absence deductions at 1/42 of the weekly rate of pay. The recommendation, dated 25 November 2004, followed a dispute with SERVICES INDUSTRIAL PROFESSIONAL TECHNICAL UNION, TECHNICAL, ENGINEERING AND ELECTRICAL UNION and AMICUS over deductions, 2003 annual leave and single shifts off. The Court found the company’s 2003 annual leave calculation correct and did not recommend in favour of the unions’ claim for seven twelfths of five extra days. It recommended discussions to make more single shifts off possible, while maintaining production and shift cover, and said employees should facilitate swaps.
