In 2003, the Labour Court recommended that Amicus/Aeeu cooperate with Crown Equipment's proposed use of video recordings in its Galway plant process-improvement programme. The recommendation, dated 15 August 2003, also called for a six-month review and a workplace code of conduct on video surveillance. Amicus/Aeeu said workers feared recordings could facilitate the transfer of work from Galway and opposed filming without prior agreement. The company said recordings were for job-study purposes, not surveillance or discipline, and that the plant needed to improve competitiveness. The Court considered the recordings part of normal ongoing change and recommended that the review assess benefits and savings.
