In 2003, the Labour Court recommended that Cairborne Trading Limited Trading As Secure-All Security recognise the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union for industrial relations purposes, including negotiations on pay and conditions. The recommendation was signed on 15 August 2003. The union said its 42 members made up more than half of the company’s full-time workforce and cited problems with wages and employment conditions. The company did not attend the hearing; a letter on its behalf said it did not recognise the union’s negotiating rights and believed membership was small. The Court noted the company’s absence and the union’s stated membership before making its recommendation.
