The Labour Court recommended that Scotts Bakery and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union meet within four weeks after the sale of the bakery premises, and that the union receive financial information to assess whether enhanced redundancy terms could be paid. The recommendation was dated 31 July 2000. The dispute concerned workers seeking four weeks’ pay per year of service. Scotts Bakery said it could pay no more than statutory redundancy and that only two leases had raised money when it sold its shops, bringing in £17,000.
