In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Bon Secours Hospital's offer to pay half the cost of new uniforms when a style change was introduced. The recommendation was signed on 29 September. The dispute concerned uniforms required for about 100 workers on non-nursing duties. The union sought hospital payment, while the hospital said it could not fund repeat provision. The Court noted that a special tax-free allowance available to the workers should contribute significantly to uniform costs.
