Labour Court recommends winter redeployment plan for Laois County Council drivers

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Labour Court recommended interim winter arrangements for drivers at Laois County Council, in a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 9 December 1996. The Council said there was enough work for five drivers during the slack period and proposed redeploying the remaining 13 to road duties. The union opposed compulsory redeployment and called for fuller use of Council equipment and work. The Court recommended that nine drivers remain in the existing arrangement, the rest be redeployed, and all keep their current allowances. It also recommended early discussions in 1997 about the effects of implementing the Council’s proposals.
