The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for a 3% pay increase at BS & B Safety Systems. The recommendation was signed on 7 February 1994. The claim covered 38 factory workers, 27 of whom had been on short-time. The union argued that the group and Irish plant were profitable and that workers had shown flexibility. The company said the Irish plant was the group’s least productive and most expensive. The Court found the circumstances did not meet the requirements of Clause 3 of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.
